Here it is with the blade rubbed out. I had several people ask me why I didn't make a mokume pocket clip to go with the backspacer. First, I had no more mokume. Second the mokume I had would have been too thin to make a 3D clip. Third, mokume is very soft and I would have had to make the clip much thicker than the titanium ones or would have easily been bent.Tomorrow, I'll add the final touches.

I'm calling this one "old school". I'm in a bit of a holding pattern waiting for supplies and decided to have some fun. I always liked how the old Micarta looks and this is some OLD stuff. I had it for years in NY and it came to Florida with me. I used it when I first started making fixed blades. Then the sheet was used for a shelf for years inside one of my sandblast cabinets. Now I'm using it again on a knife. The backspacer is Mokume. Not sure whats going to happen to the blade yet . I'm doing a very light orange peel on the frames so they'll be shiny.

I went with a polished frame on this one instead of stonewash. The orange peel finish gives it a different look. I like it much better than a regular polish.

Here's one that I finished up right before Christmans. I never leave my blades "as ground" but thought I'd try something different. Putting the blade back on the grinder after stonewashing it risky business :-) I was happy when I was done!!! So this is my first knife with stonewashed flats and satin hollows!

This is the Minx prototype, that is actually my Neck Ninja model. It's really unique with two completely different handle treatments on each side. That one was sent to Boker to produce the Minx model!
The knife not only has two different handle treatments, it's also sharpened on the right side of the blade. The marks on the handle are now gone and it looks like the day it left my shop. Ok, it's a Mini Skirmish with thumbstuds. I prepped two blades like this a while ago and forgot about them. This frame was the test bed for the. CF pocket clips. The inlay side is thicker and contoured. The lock side is thinner and flat, allowing the frame and clip to be as thin as possible. It really carries nice.

I'm quite happy with my pocket clip. I know everyone else has done them but I haven't. Doing the pocket/island single screw attachment was just a bit of a challenge in CF. This is the first knife that I did on a setup and it's probably the most contoured frame I've ever done. It's nice having time to make such refinements! :-)

I've always wanted to do a CF pocket clip and finally worked out a way to make it happen. It's a bit tricky due to how I attach them. I can't make the CF clips the same way I do with Ti. But....... I'm very happy with how they are turning out. CF is the most requested material on my knives right now. I always hated the idea of doing a lock side inlay as most of it ends up covered by the pocket clip. Now, I can have balance with CF on BOTH sides ;-) The Mini Skirmish below will feature a CF inlay and CF pocket clip, Chad Nichols damascus blade and backspacer.......BALANCE!!

A few more pics from the past few days. This one has a thick lockside frame that's been contoured, Orange G10 onlay and backspacer, mosaic pin. When the frames are this thick the lockbar relief has to go outboard on the frame or contouring it would be impossible. Rather than a single cut, I used the tripple one like I do on the inside of the thinner frames. I think it looks GNARLY!!! ;-)

This one get a two tone S30V blade with a bare stonewash finish and heat colored hardware.

IT FLIPS!! I think it's a good sign when a flipper flips without the detent ball snap. It should really fire nice when the blade is ground and lighter and the detent is functioning. Some may not like my exposed "flying stop pin" but that's how i designed it to keep the blade/handle ratio i wanted. It only shows for a split second! ;-)

I could have easily finished the first one today but as I qualified each part and operation, I made extra parts. That way after the first one is done, the next few will go quickly.

I been ITCHING to make more Henchman folders. 2 years ago i made those as a button lock. But at the time i've more requests for a framelock. The Henchman Button Lock was never a flipper, so the decision is made - THE HENCHMAN FRAMELOCK FLIPPER!

The Button Lock will be an option, when i move in a bigger shop - i hope soon!

Here's the fixture plate for all things Henchman Flipper, Frames, blades, backspacers. Eventually the pocket clip and maybe some inlays, etc. The milling at the bottom was for Mini Skirmish inlays, no time to make a fresh plate! :-)

The first thing that comes off the CNC and fixture plate are steel drilling fixtures for the blade, frame and backspacer. On these, I won't do any drilling in the CNC. The only thing the CNC will do is milling the profiles and the lock bar slot. Profiling the first blade and the titanium frame parts prior to drilling and milling.

Here's the drilling fixtures put together to get an idea of what the knife will look like. It flips nice with a 10-24 bolt though the pivot and no stop pin. The pivot holes get opened up to 1/4" in another operation.

The first blades, heat treated and ready to finish. I'm hoping to have one together and flipping by tomorrow evening. I'll take more pics! :-)

Here's the blade, all rubbed, sharpened and ready to go into the frame. I don't put the edge on my blades while they're in the frame. If I hit the frame with the belt, I'm screwed and all that dust goes into the pivot. The frames in the background just happened to be laying there! :-)

While the frames are in the tumbler, I finshed up the backspacer. It's been LONG time since I did one shiny but I think it will add a little bling to balance out that mammoth ivory. Again, please ignore the product placement in the background. :-)

Lock set, now the easy and fun part starts. Melting, finishing, rubbing and making the inlay all pretty!

It's all ready to finish at this point. The pocket clip has been melted, inlay finished. All the hard work is done. The flash makes everything looks scratchy but it's very smooth.

OK, it doesn't look like I've done much more to the frame.........but I have. All the holes counterbored, pivot reamed, backspacer milled to thickness, stop pin made, pivot made, pivot screw prepped and the inlay holes drilled and tapped. I also took some BEFORE pics of the pocket clip. It gets a lot of work which will be next.

When I finish the pocket clip, I'll also melt the frame and backspacer.

I'm making this one ass backwards as I usually grind the blade last. Today, I wanted to see what it would look like so I did it first. I like to finish the frame almost all the way before I set the lock. That's next as well.

If all the components are prepped correctly, the blade will always be centered when assembled. I like when they just fall into place, dead center without any problems upon the first assembley. Then I know that it will do the same thing during final assembley.

The blade is ready to finish. I hand ground the top edge instead of doing it on my block fixture. It's much deeper and more pronounced. The main grind is also done. I'm moving on to the frame. Once that's all prepped, I'll stonewash everything at once.

I've been working on some new mini skirm variations and finishing up promised knives. This variation will allow for several variations in itself as you can see by the prepped parts. Have a crazy damascus/damasus/damascus pocket couple one in the works as well.
The Ti parts are drill templates for the inlays. Gotta make them first!!! More soon....

At the time i'm drawing up the version 20.11 of the full size Skirmish. There has been some interest and I wanted to give the design a face lift. It will have a blade hole similar to the mini and a slighltly different, more aggressive blade profile. It will also have the knife shaped, 3d pocket clip.

Mulligan Mini Skirmish - ONE OF - Finished Pics

This is a Mini Skirmish "Mulligan" Some might remember the full size Skirmish Mulligan i made a few years ago. Basically they are made from a blade that ended up too short. What I do is shorten it even more and cut the back of the frame to compensate. This is the FIRST Mini Skirmish Mulligan, it might be the last unless I end up with another short blade The stock blade size is just a hair under 3 1/2" the blade on this one is just a hair over 3". The standard Mini is about 8" OAL, the Mulligan is just over 7 3/8"......Quite a "chop" They blade is much more "stubby" in person than in the pics but it still has a really good blade to handle ratio.

Like the Mini Skirmish, it's built like a tank with a 1/4" pivot, the Mulligan has two 6-32 frame screws with Ti spacers. It locks like a bank vault with a very strong detent. The pocket clip is from a Button lock Henchman. It's mounted so the knife will carry deep in the pocket. The blade is stonewashed S30V.

A customer jumped off from his order so this ONE IS GONE! It’s a fancy one hand rubbed blade with a unique top grind, CF inlay with a moonglow mosaic pin. The frame is thick and fully contoured. It has a two tone stonewash finish with some unique highlights. It’s super smooth and locks up like a tank!! Definitely, one of tne of the nicest ones yet. I made some progress on finishing a blade. This is my setup for blades made of out of carbon steels, to hand rubb them. I hate to call it only "satin" finish.......because it's done by hand, so i call it "handrubbed satin finish"! :-)

Below are some progress pics on the first lefty and some grinding pics. This is my grinding fixture for doing the top edges using that small contact wheel. I also use it for doing the compound grinds with a large contact wheel. I cannot grind the normal main grinds or any sort of recurve on it. The main grind will be done by hand!

Lefty parts farther along, starting the assembly process. Now all the frames are reamed together, now kept in matching pairs. Notice the stop pin holes have a step created by the reamer. That's to keep the pin from falling out

Also notice the pocket clip pocket. The pocket matches an island on the pocket clip, keeping it from moving using only one mounting screw.
All the precision, drilling, reaming and counterboring is done on my 50's Atlas drill press that belonged to my grandfather It's rock solid and has a really precise depth stop! STAY TUNED!!!
